Recently, the Japan Caustic Soda Industry Association announced the drug supply and demand results for the caustic soda industry, showing that domestic demand for caustic soda in Japan rose 14.5% year-on-year to 253,200 tons in May, maintaining an increase for the second consecutive month. Analysts said that domestic demand fell to 221,000 tons in the same month last year due to the epidemic, while it is now rebounding year-on-year. Among them, both own consumption (up 12.3% year-on-year) and market sales (up 15.6% year-on-year) maintained growth, indicating that domestic demand has fully recovered.
Meanwhile, Japan's caustic soda exports of 34,500 tons, down 28.5% year-on-year, the first time in 3 months, a sharp decline of 60.3% YoY; shipments of 287,800 tons, up 6.8% YoY, three consecutive months of growth; production of 281,600 tons, flat YoY.
