Tata Chemical India Soda Ash Project Receives Environmental Approval
Tata Chemicals announced that its expansion of the soda ash plant in Mitappur, Gujarat, has received environmental approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change of India.
The company plans to increase the soda ash capacity of the Mitapur plant from the current 1.09 million tons per year to 1.13 million tons per year. The estimated cost is 10.42 billion rupees (about 151 million US dollars). The expansion project will be carried out in the existing plant and completed within two years. The approval is subject to certain conditions and is approved in advance by the Standing Committee of the National Wildlife Commission.
According to Tata Chemical, the plant currently accounts for about 34% of India's soda ash production capacity, making it one of the world's largest producers of soda ash.
