Titanium Dioxide - It has been used in the food industry for many years in the world. *Common uses are candy, pastries, sauces, rainbow sugar, chewing gum and other foods. For example, if the mutton soup and big bone soup sold in the restaurant are particularly white, titanium dioxide is generally added. At the same time, titanium dioxide is also used in cosmetics (whitening, concealing, sunscreen) and other industrial uses, such as papermaking, printing and dyeing.
On April 17, 2019, the French Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Economic Affairs issued a joint announcement that the widespread use of food additive titanium dioxide (also known as titanium dioxide) will be banned from 2020. Previous studies have pointed out that titanium dioxide may harm consumers' health. It is understood that the French Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment have recommended that the Ministry of Health officials sign a ban on the sale of foods containing titanium dioxide from January 1, 2020, and the relevant laws and regulations will be announced in the near future.
It is reported that the reason for signing the food ban on titanium dioxide is “there is uncertainty in the safety of the food additive” and “the daily allowable intake cannot be determined due to lack of data evidence”. However, this decision only involves food, toothpaste, cosmetics and medicines are not affected. This "limited prohibition" has caused dissatisfaction among some non-governmental organizations.
